‘Kawa Masu’

This is a Brook Trout AKA Salvelinus fontinalis AKA “Kawa Masu”. Although the name implies the common species, it is actually a char. This one’s caught at Yukawa River in Japan in 2015 – a descendant of the ones first introduced back in 1902 by the joint effort among a Scotsman, an Englishman, and local fishing cooperatives.

Not like certain small fish species, this is a small fish that united a local fly fishing community.
